Facebook DO listen!
We've been lobbying Facebook ... we're certain along with millions of others, to improve and upgrade business page attributes and today they have announced the great changes that they are implimenting.
So What is New?
- To access your business pages from your personal account you no longer select 'manage pages' in the drop down on the top right under 'Account' you now only see an option that says 'Use Facebook as a Page'. If like me you manage several pages you will get a lightbox of all your pages and you can select the one you want.
- One problem has always been knowing when someone comments on your pages and being able to respond. Now you will receive a notification when people interact with your page.
- Business Pages have always been at a disadvantage to businesses who breach Facebook T&C's with Personal Pages but Business Pages are now at least able to like other Pages although they still cannot 'like' individuals. Beware of Pages you 'like' because their feeds will come into your Page newsfeed ... but you can disable those links if you don't want to mix your Page content.
- Return to your personal page from the top right link provided for you under the 'Account' option.
- For a while now they have also changed the categories and set up for Business Pages. Remember that choosing the right name for your page, the right categories are all relevant and important to ensure you get found in Facebook searches ... which are VERY different from other search engine searches.
- You can change settings under Edit Page and Manage Settings - there are two options if you want to be able to write on the page as yourself and not as the business there is a tick box to clear and if you are receiving too many mails from your page you can disable updates.
- If photographs are an important part of your Page then you will be really pleased with the new top banner showing off your images and this is known to increase click throughs to images. It also emulates the personal page and so is familiar to visitors.
All Pages will be upgraded from 10 March 2011.
While most people will not be very happy with or comfortable with the changes like everything once they become more familiar it will be less of an issue. Most importantly, we believe, this action FINALLY puts Business Pages on a much stronger footing than before. Not to forget that Personal Pages are limited to only 5000 'likes' and you can not advertise them.
If all of that sounds too confusing then why not let us help you set up the right Facebook Page for your business ... Facebook matters when it comes to your business!
