A designer tablet has hit the market. And we don’t mean a tablet which is created to cater for CAD workers or professional artists in some respect. What we’re talking about is a tablet with a “label” name, clad in a posh leather case which is all about style over substance. Yes, hurrah for the world of fashion… The name in question is Pierre Cardin, a French fashion house which has released the PC-7006 tablet. It’s a 7 inch slate which is powered by Android 2.2 – which is so last year, Pierre, not to mention an operating system which is really meant for smartphones. Keeping with the retro theme, the tablet boasts one 1.3 megapixel camera (front-facing), and just 4GB of memory, plus a 1GHz processor. It does have an HDMI port on board, though. However, no one’s likely to get excited about the spec, particularly the Android 2.2 bit. Although the PC-7006 will still probably be lapped up by fashionistas everywhere because it has a Cardin finished leather case, or an app which spouts random quotes from the Devil Wears Froyo. Prada, sorry, Prada… The one saving grace is given that it’s a fashion conscious gadget, surprisingly the tablet doesn’t actually cost the Earth. Which might mean the real target audience doesn’t buy it for fear of being seen with something “cheap” (to the tune of £275). You get a nice gift box with the device, too, although we suspect the Cardin slate probably doesn’t have the Cupertino mob losing any sleep at night. |
